The International
Extension College - now more commonly referred to as IEC - was
established in 1971 to help set up and sustain educational initiatives
in developing countries. We specialise in the area of open and
distance learning (ODL) which we use to provide appropriate solutions
for educational problems.
Over the years
we have helped set up many organisations and assisted with the
further development of others. Details of current projects and
others we have worked on appear on this website. IEC is also
carrying out several research projects in and around various
applications of open and distance learning - for details of these,
please see our Research pages. |

Team picture
It is not
easy to get the whole IEC team together on one occasion as there
always seems to be someone who is working overseas... or taking
the photograph (Jason took the one below and Kate and Maxine had
not yet joined us when this picture was taken).

From left to right, around the table: Tony Wrightson, Vicky McCulloch,
Judith Collier, Amanda Gibbard, Julie Leonard, Kay Day, Chris Yates,
Flic Binns, Jo Bradley, Naomi Lockwood.
The picture below
is not quite all of us but does include some of the DED Summer
School participants in 2001

From left to
right, back row: Amanda Gibbard, Chris Yates, Naomi Lockwood, Thulaganyo
Thutoetsile (DED course), Naomi Nishioka (DED course), Miriam Maroba
(DED course), next row, Jason Pennells, Julie Leonard, Vicky McCulloch,
Jo Bradley, Barbara Spronk (former director, now overseas consultant),
Rogerio Cossa (DED course), Abdul Salam Akbarzai (DED course), Daniel

You will be able to
find out more information about who works for IEC in our section
on staff, and see how you can apply to
be put on our Consultants database.
