The project focuses
on women in the Lake Victoria region involved in the fishing
industry. By developing a radio-based education programme, it
aims to build women's capacity in running small business enterprises,
and also incorporates a health awareness programme in order to
reduce the spread of STIs in the area. |

Building literacy
in Sudan with SOLO Press |

This is a literacy
programme which aims to have several thousand people, including
refugees and displaced people, reading on a daily basis. The
project will also develop and trial a strategy for expanding
the market for SOLO Press to reach potentially millions of underserved
readers. |

Improving teacher
education through human resource development at ITEK (Institute
of Teacher Education Kyambogo) |
Uganda |
ITEK provides pre-service
and in-service training in the field of teacher education. The
aim of the project is to develop the human resource at ITEK so
that it is able to develop and deliver distance education courses
to teachers and trainers in Uganda. This will lead to improved
standards in teaching at both primary and secondary levels. |
