Workshops
IEC workshops are (usually) one day events held in our Resource
Centre in Cambridge. They are primarily intended for people who
are planning programmes or projects along open and distance learning
(ODL) lines. The key aim of each workshop is to raise awareness
of the different issues involved in planning for, implementing,
monitoring and then evaluating ODL programmes.
Each workshop
focuses on a different aspect of ODL, for example:
--- when to use open
and distance learning
--- economics and
costing
--- training support
staff
--- evaluating learning
materials
--- using appropriate
technology
Workshop facilitators
with specialist knowledge and experience come from within IEC
and lead each workshop. The format is largely interactive as
you would expect from a workshop. There will usually be a mix
of presentations and discussion as well as some individual and
group tasks. It sounds obvious, but you should come prepared
to talk about your own project. There will most likely be an
opportunity to use it as a case study. Past experience has shown
that participants have benefited hugely from the interactive
format of these workshops. They have also found it a useful starting
point for planning more in-depth training. Here's what some people
have said:
"stimulating
and enlightening", "good use of activities and discussion
using participants experience", "useful and relevant
case studies", "a high level of interest maintained
in an intensive day".
