introduction to projects

Projects are an integral part of IEC's work. Implemented in partnership with local NGOs, they work towards lasting, bottom-up, tangible change at grassroots level. Through our projects, we see education working as a vehicle for improvements in livelihood and well-being, and acting as a powerful catalyst for community voice and change as groups form and grow in confidence.

To date, the majority of our projects have been based in Sub-Saharan Africa, however we have recently been working on transferring lessons learnt in the South to work with marginalised groups in the UK.

Nigeria > we have a project in the early stages of development with the Nigerian NGO PARE focused on enabling nomadic communities in the north to explore and demand their rights using video.

Streatham, UK > looking at using what we have learnt overseas, we are working with partners to develop and fund a project addressing the educational needs of refugees and asylum seekers in London which will involve using a participatory learning approach to ESOL combined with community integration.

East Anglia, UK > IEC is exploring opportunities to share lessons it has learnt through its work with nomadic groups in Africa with organisations working with gypsy and traveller communities in East Anglia.
